Greifswald Hosts a Heritage Day on September 14, 2025
Greifswald, a city rich in history and culture, is set to open its doors to the public for a special Heritage Day on September 14, 2025. The theme of the event, "WERT-Voll," encourages visitors to discover hidden treasures and learn new stories.
The day will kick off with Historian André Lutze giving a lecture titled "775 Years of Greifswald: Buildings from the Founding Century in the Old Town" at 10:00 AM in the Town Hall. Following the lecture, a guided tour of the Old Town will commence at 12:30 PM, meeting at the Town Hall.
At 6:00 PM, Lutze will lead a walk through the Eldena Monastery ruins park, discussing the monastery's architectural development up to Greifswald's founding in 1250. The Eldena windmill interior will also be accessible for exploration during this tour.
The University of Greifswald's Old University Library and the Historical Greenhouses of the Botanical Garden will be open for tours. Visitors can also learn about the Ladebow airfield settlement and Frieda Stundl-Pietschmann's contributions to Pomeranian fisherman's carpets with tours offered at specific times.
Historical ships can be viewed at the Museum Harbor, and the Pomeranian State Museum, the Caspar-David-Friedrich Center, the churches of St. Nikolai, St. Marien, and St. Jacobi, as well as the Kultur- und Initiativenhaus STRAZE, will participate with various events.
From 2:00 to 6:00 PM, the Hofcafé will be open in the Soziokulturelles Zentrum St. Spiritus, allowing visitors to print linocut postcards. The exhibition "Said-Done" about Pomeranian legends can be visited, with two readings offered in the afternoon.
