ActionAid-DUDS Debate Festival Concludes; Winner of Dhaka University Debate Remains Unknown

The ActionAid-DUDS Inter-University Debate Festival concluded at the University of Dhaka on Saturday. Despite the event's conclusion, the winner of the debate held from February 1 to 3, 2023, remains unknown.

The festival saw participation from 24 university-level teams and 16 school and college-level teams. Jahangir University Debating Society and Rajshahi University Debating Society emerged as champions and runners-up in the university-level debate, respectively. BAF Shaheen College and Government Science College took the top spots in the school and college-level debate. Tahmida Maliha of Dhaka University was crowned the overall champion of the festival.

The closing ceremony was graced by Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, DU treasurer, as the chief guest. Zubair Hossain, DUDS president, presided over the event, while Professor SM Shamim Reza, Professor Amirul Salat, Nazmul Ahsan, and Md Rafiqul Islam attended as special guests. Ragib Anjum, DUDS general secretary, conducted the ceremony, and Mosaddek Ali Ibne Mohammad delivered the welcome address.

While the festival successfully concluded, the lack of information about the debate winner at Dhaka University from February 1 to 3, 2023, remains a mystery. The event's suggestions and proposals, however, were hoped to influence national plans, as emphasized by Professor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The importance of debating practice for enhancing negotiation and communication skills was also highlighted.
