AfriLabs, the largest network of innovation hubs in Africa, has embarked on an ambitious mission to unlock $1 trillion in digital economic value on the continent over the next decade. Case studies show startups building AI-powered disease detection tools, solar energy platforms, and agritech platforms. Llama 3.1, an AI Hackathon organized by AfriLabs, gathered over 100 tech talent from across Sub-Saharan Africa to co-create solutions addressing social challenges [7]. The hackathon, funded by Meta and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, saw 19 emerging solutions developed by 19 teams [7].
AfriLabs' Moonshot event is scheduled in Lagos on October 15-16. The top eight teams from the hackathon have advanced to the next phase of the program, where they will receive additional mentorship and potential funding [8]. Early bird tickets for the Moonshot event are currently 20% off [9].
