He threatened to work hard against Steil if he runs for any office in the future. Another woman suggested it was time for Steil to step down, while another criticized him for being a “rubber stamp” for Trump and the GOP, promoting a "billionaires-first agenda."
One woman even asked why ICE agents were wearing masks and were unidentified. Video footage of the town hall was obtained by MSNBC's Morning Joe, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on the incident.
Steil acknowledged that it's fine to disagree, but the crowd continued to yell, drowning out his attempts to answer. This town hall was the first in-person event for a Wisconsin Republican since March, when GOP leaders advised members to avoid such gatherings. Steil is one of two Wisconsin representatives that Democrats plan to target in the midterm elections.
Despite the hostile environment, a smaller, quieter group of supporters were also present, voicing their support for Steil and his policies. The town hall served as a reminder of the divided political landscape in Wisconsin and the nation as a whole.
