Bellevue City chooses BRIDGE Housing and Su Development for constructing two Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects
Bellevue to See Two Transit-Oriented Development Projects by BRIDGE Housing and Su Development
The city of Bellevue, Washington, has selected BRIDGE Housing and Su Development to construct two transit-oriented development (TOD) complexes, marking a significant step forward in the city's Affordable Housing Strategy.
BRIDGE Housing will develop the site at 1500 130th Avenue Northeast, transforming the vacant 1.15-acre parcel into an affordable housing community with integrated artistic space. The project will deliver at least 172 affordable homes, including family-sized units for households at or below 80% of the area median income.
In addition to the residential units, the development will feature design elements for artists to create artwork within their living space, dedicated arts and cultural facilities, public open space and gathering areas, and a connection to the BelRed light-rail station.
Meanwhile, Su Development will develop the site at 1700 130th Avenue Northeast. The complex will include a ground-floor arts hub led by the BelRed Arts District Alliance, small retail spaces for artists and creative entrepreneurs, and a public arts plaza promoting the BelRed Arts District.
The city-owned properties where these TODs will be located are part of the BelRed arts District. Both developments are aimed at advancing multiple city goals related to housing and economic development, and they are expected to support thriving people and communities.
In partnership with the city and Sound Transit, Su Development will replace a park-and-ride lot with a 302-stall parking garage and a mix of market-rate and affordable housing. The details of the TOD building complex at 1700 130th Avenue Northeast are yet to be disclosed.
Bianca Siegl, Director of Bellevue's Office of Housing, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating it will expand housing opportunities in the city. The city is currently in the process of negotiating final agreements with both developers.
These TODs are situated next to the BelRed light-rail station, making them ideal for those seeking convenient transportation options. The construction of these TODs aims to advance multiple city goals related to housing and economic development, while also supporting the arts and cultural ecosystem in Bellevue.
