Boosting Businesses with Digital Tools Through Intensive Education in Native Languages
In a bid to bridge the digital divide and empower micro-enterprises, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth launched Project Digital Saksham in 2021. This initiative aims to enhance the digital capabilities of businesses, particularly micro-enterprises, across the country.
Currently, the project is organizing training for micro-enterprises in 13 states and 55 clusters. The training programs are conducted in various regional languages to ensure maximum participation and effective learning. Trainers for the project are from the surrounding areas, making the training more relatable and accessible.
Digital Saksham offers a multi-faceted approach to digital literacy, providing training programs that cover essential skills for thriving in the digital era. The skills imparted by Project Digital Saksham motivate individuals to participate more actively in the modern, technology-driven world.
In Uttar Pradesh, Digital Saksham is contributing to the state's digital renaissance by promoting collaboration between businesses, government agencies, and local communities. The initiative helps individuals regardless of their prior exposure to technology. It is not just about teaching digital skills, but also about fostering a deeper understanding of the impact digital literacy has on personal and community development.
One such success story is that of Ms. Yamini Choudhary from Maharashtra, a bulk tailoring business owner. Ms. Choudhary was introduced to the GeM portal (Government e-Marketplace) through Digital Saksham training and is now actively exploring the possibility of augmenting orders on the government's platform.
The project also recognises the importance of integrating micro-enterprises in the formal economy. To this end, the trainers support the entrepreneurs with Udyam Registration, allowing them to showcase their products on the Government e-marketplace and other digital platforms.
In Odisha, the project is working with tribal micro-entrepreneurs, where the first step of learning is to help them understand that they are MSMEs. Digital Saksham's training programs in Odisha focus on helping tribal micro-entrepreneurs understand and leverage the benefits of MSME schemes offered by state and central government.
Moreover, Digital Saksham is shaping a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the digital age by streamlining accessibility, interactivity, and community support. In Uttar Pradesh, the project is promoting cultural preservation and economic progress by blending modern technology with traditional handicrafts, such as the Digital Saree Emporium, Digital Silk Route, Digital Leathercraft, Digital Jewellery Atelier, and Digital Flavours.
In a nutshell, Project Digital Saksham is making strides in empowering micro-enterprises across India, fostering digital literacy, and integrating businesses into the formal economy. It is a significant step towards a digital-ready India.
