New Kindergarten "Sea Heroes" to Open in Osterath
Good news for the residents of Osterath, as the construction of the new kindergarten "Sea Heroes" has begun. Mayor Christian Bommers expressed his relief and happiness about the start of construction, which is expected to eliminate overcrowding in individual kindergartens and create calming space reserves in the area.
The new kindergarten will be a six-group facility that can accommodate up to 100 children. It will be built using hybrid construction, combining concrete and wooden elements. An inclined foil roof with a photovoltaic system and green roofing covers the building, ensuring sustainability and energy efficiency.
The construction company has also announced that a heat pump will be used for heating the new kindergarten. This decision aligns with the city's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices.
The construction method is expected to shorten the construction time significantly. The foundation will be laid in August, and the wooden construction will be erected in September. The completion of the shell construction is planned for December 2025, and the interior fit-out is to begin in January 2026. The new kindergarten is scheduled to be completed by July 2026, including green outdoor facilities.
The new kindergarten will work with an integrative approach, taking into account children with disabilities or special care needs. The interior of the new kindergarten is supported by wooden pillars and non-load-bearing interior walls made of gypsum board, making the room layout flexible and changeable.
The German Red Cross, Grevenbroich district association, will take over the trusteeship for the new kindergarten. Stephanie Fandel, head of the youth department in the city administration, has stated that the new building will fundamentally advance Osterath's kindergarten capacity planning.
