Charity organization, Hector Foundation, plans to donate a total of 25 million euros to children's educational institutions by the year 2030.
The Hector Foundation's Children's Academies, a specialized STEM education initiative for primary school children, are making waves across Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. These academies aim to spark early interest and skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, fostering a lasting curiosity in young learners.
The program offers interactive and playful learning modules, focusing on early intervention in STEM education. By collaborating with schools in both states, the academies are seamlessly integrated into primary education frameworks, ensuring wide reach and sustainable impact. Emphasis on experimentation, creativity, and teamwork enables children to actively explore STEM topics, rather than passively absorbing information.
Minister of Culture Theresa Schopper (Greens) has shown her support for this initiative, signing a corresponding agreement with the Hector Foundation in April. The minister emphasizes the importance of supporting both strong and disadvantaged children, with early childhood education being a focus of her work.
The Hector Foundation's Children's Academies are currently located in 69 locations across Baden-Württemberg, from Efringen-Kirchen in the southwest to Wertheim and Bad Mergentheim in the north and northeast, and to Wangen in the southeast. The academies in Stuttgart are the foundation's main hub, but they are now also available in Hesse, exclusively at full-day primary schools.
The total funding for these academies by the end of the 2029/2030 school year will be 25 million euros. Beyond regular teaching content, these academies offer a funding program that supports children's curiosity and drive for natural sciences. The program is scientifically accompanied by the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research in Tübingen and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Research and Educational Information in Frankfurt am Main.
The Hector Foundation's Children's Academies are the only statewide funding program for gifted primary school children in Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. The foundation maintains academies for gifted and highly gifted primary school children, recognizing the importance of nurturing these children's talents from a young age.
Looking to the future, the Hector Foundation is planning to establish an online academy to make its offer available to all primary school children in the foreseeable future. This move aims to extend the reach of the program beyond the current physical locations and bring the benefits of STEM education to even more children across the states.
