CNRS Launches 'Year of Engineering' to Boost Women's Influence

The CNRS is set to launch a thematic year dedicated to engineering, aiming to increase women's influence in the field. The 'Year of Engineering' will run from September 2025 to June 2026, with a focus on highlighting all engineering professions and creating a continuum from school education to the industrial world.

Currently, women are underrepresented in engineering at the CNRS. The gender equality index for CNRS Engineering stands at 2.42. Only 17% of unit directors are women, reflecting the broader issue of women giving up on scientific teaching. A worrying 46% of high school girls abandon scientific subjects at the end of high school. To address this, the CNRS will inaugurate the 'Engineering Women' exhibition during the Year of Engineering, which launches on October 1, 2025, at the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac in Paris.

The 'Back to My School' operation will also play a role, bringing engineering professionals back to their former schools to meet students and inspire them to pursue careers in engineering. The initiative seeks to make engineering professions attractive and visible, bridging the gap from school education to the industrial world.

The CNRS's Year of Engineering, starting in September 2025, aims to tackle the underrepresentation of women in engineering. With exhibitions, professional meet-ups, and a thematic year dedicated to engineering, the initiative seeks to inspire more women to pursue careers in the field and create a continuum from school to industry.
