Adults Gain School Leaving Certificates at Volkshochschule Across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

In a commendable initiative, the Volkshochschule (VHS) of various districts in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been offering courses for adults to obtain their vocational qualifications and the intermediate school leaving certificate. The demand for these courses is high, with many places in the upcoming autumn courses already being fully booked.

In Schwerin alone, 64 adults have recently received their certificates after completing one-year courses. Out of these, 30 achieved vocational qualifications, and 34 obtained the intermediate school leaving certificate. Many students in the evening classes are already employed.

The VHS offers free courses for adults to obtain their vocational or intermediate school leaving certificate. Courses for the intermediate school leaving certificate were offered at the locations of Greifswald, Anklam, Pasewalk in Vorpommern-Greifswald, and at two locations in Ludwigslust-Parchim. In the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district, 15 participants obtained the intermediate school leaving certificate this year, while in Nordwestmecklenburg, 14 participants passed the certificate.

The benefits of obtaining this certificate as an adult include qualification for higher educational opportunities, enhanced career prospects, and personal development. With additional vocational qualifications or work experience, it may open pathways to study even without an Abitur (general higher education entrance qualification).

The mayor of Schwerin, Rico Badenschier (SPD), praised the commitment of the certificate recipients. He noted that these courses provide a second chance for adults to improve their qualifications and open up opportunities for a better future.

Notably, the VHS of the Bützow justice prison in the Rostock district has been offering courses to inmates, providing them with the opportunity to obtain vocational qualifications and the intermediate school leaving certificate. This year, 10 prisoners in Bützow have achieved vocational qualifications, and the course for the intermediate school leaving certificate is still ongoing, with the participants set to receive their certificates next year.

The certificates from the Volkshochschule are equivalent to those from regular schools, according to the Volkshochschulverband. This ensures that the qualifications obtained through these courses are recognised and valued in the job market.

In total, more than 100 new prospects are opened up for people this year through these courses, providing a significant boost to their educational and career prospects. The Volkshochschule's commitment to adult education is commendable and is undoubtedly making a positive impact on the lives of many adults in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The Volkshochschule (VHS) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers courses for adults focusing on education-and-self-development through vocational training, which includes courses for the intermediate school leaving certificate and vocational qualifications. These opportunities encourage personal-growth and open up learning pathways to higher education and improved career prospects. Additionally, the VHS provides education services to inmates, offering them vocational training and the intermediate school leaving certificate, further facilitating their personal-growth and reintegration into society.
