Concerns rise among families despite Germany's leading standing in academic realms, owing to perceived educational deficiencies.

Approximately one-third of students in Germany utilize AI-assisted learning tools during their classroom sessions.

Concerns about learning disparities persist, despite Germany's scholarly dominance in classrooms.

Concerns rise among families despite Germany's leading standing in academic realms, owing to perceived educational deficiencies.

In the ever-evolving landscape of education, parents in Germany are expressing concerns about their children falling behind academically due to rapid changes in the education system and feeling overwhelmed in the digital learning environment. This apprehension is particularly notable in the context of the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in classrooms.

To help alleviate these concerns, GoStudent, a leading tutoring platform, has developed five practical tips to boost children's confidence in learning.

  1. Understand the Technology: Parents should familiarise themselves with the technology used in the classroom and learn how to support their children with similar tools at home.
  2. Strengthen Learning Habits: Instead of focusing solely on grades, parents should establish regular study times, provide a quiet workspace, and praise effort to strengthen learning habits.
  3. Use Technology Purposefully: Learning about age-appropriate AI tools and learning apps that complement, not replace, learning is crucial. By doing so, parents can ensure their children are making the most of digital resources while maintaining a balanced learning experience.
  4. Stay in Touch with Teachers: Regular conversations with teachers can help identify where a child might need extra support, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically.
  5. Stay Calm and Positive: Adopting a positive approach to learning difficulties and viewing mistakes as learning opportunities often makes a difference. Children pick up on parental pressure, so it's essential to stay calm and supportive.

These tips are particularly relevant in the context of the GoStudent Future of Education Report 2025, which was released in July 2025. Based on a survey of 1,000 parents and their children in Germany, the report shows that 43% of parents fear their children will fall behind academically, while 52% believe AI can improve their children's learning, but often don't know how to access such tools or support digital education at home.

Despite Germany leading Europe in AI training for teachers, the actual usage of AI-based learning aids in German classrooms remains limited. This cautious or restrained acceptance among parents reflects concerns about ethical use and data privacy, as well as the emphasis on ethical guidelines and awareness from European bodies.

As the European Commission's ethical guidelines for educators on AI use, published in 2022 and undergoing revision by the end of 2025, target primary and secondary teachers to raise awareness of AI's benefits and risks, it is likely that these guidelines will influence parental perceptions.

In summary, Germany is leading in the infrastructure and teacher training necessary for AI use in classrooms, but actual implementation of AI learning aids in everyday teaching is still developing. Parental attitudes appear measured and informed by ethical considerations promoted within the education system. By following GoStudent's practical tips, parents can help their children thrive in the digital learning environment while ensuring they receive a well-rounded education.

  1. Recognizing the significant role of technology in modern education, particularly the increasing use of AI, parents should make a concerted effort to familiarize themselves with these educational tools and learn how to support their children effectively, applying the same approach at home as in the classroom.
  2. As the European Commission continuously works on ethical guidelines for AI use in education, parents can benefit from understanding these guidelines as they emphasize the benefits and risks associated with AI, assisting in providing children with a well-rounded education that integrates technology with traditional learning methods.
