Professor Shaun Hendy MNZM FRSNZ is set to discuss his new book, The Covid Response, in two upcoming events in Auckland and Christchurch.

On 25 August 2025, Professor Hendy will be in conversation with Associate Professor Siouxsie Wiles MNZM and Toby Manhire in Auckland. The event in Christchurch will take place on 4 September 2025, with Professor Hendy in conversation with Rebecca Macfie.

In The Covid Response, Hendy offers an insider’s account of New Zealand’s science-driven strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing behind-the-scenes insights of the rapid decision-making by his team at Te Pūnaha Matatini, and reflecting on the lessons learned for the future.

The events, hosted by Bridget Williams Books, will feature a variety of activities. One activity, titled "The wars within," aims to teach big science ideas related to the immune system. Another activity, "Fighting infection card game," is designed to help participants understand the vocabulary associated with COVID-19. There is also an activity called "Making snot," which focuses on the spread of diseases.

The events will also delve into ethical dilemmas in fighting infection, providing a comprehensive look at the science and ethics of New Zealand's response to the pandemic.
