His academic achievements extend beyond this, as he won the 1st Annual Herbert Zipper Award in Music Composition and the UCLA Concerto Competition.

Nakano's musical prowess is not limited to theory alone. He honed his skills on the piano and percussion at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. His play, "A Concerto for Claire", premiered at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School in 2002. Nakano also served as the Music Director and on-stage pianist for Lodestone Theatre Ensemble's "Closer Than Ever" in 2009.

Nakano's performance career is impressive, with solo appearances with the Southeast Symphony and a solo recital at Zipper Hall in March 2012, accompanied by Michael Sushel. He has also played multiple engagements at the Huntington Library President's house for their donor dinners and appeared as a performer/lecturer at the Beach Club in Santa Monica as part of the Great Speaker Series.

The Los Angeles Inception Orchestra, under Nakano's leadership, is set to embark on an exciting new venture - a Virtual Reality/360 music education program.
