Luciano Bucci, a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, continues to make history as he was selected for the honour once again in the 2021-22 academic year.
Academic achievements aren't the only highlights at Park University. The upcoming events include the Laughlin Air Force Base Campus Commencement on August 5 at 3 p.m. at Anderson Hall, and the Fall Semester/Fall I Term begins on August 15. Residence halls on the Parkville Campus will open for the Fall Semester on August 12.
The Board of Trustees Meeting is scheduled for August 26 on the Parkville Campus. During the meeting, Terry Calaway, Scott Jackman, and Timothy Pachasa will begin their three-year term, effective July 1. Vince Clark was re-elected as chair of the Board of Trustees.
In other news, Ilya Shmukler, a graduate student at Park University's International Center for Music, advanced to the finals of the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Shmukler won a cash prize of $10,000 as a finalist and was also selected as the winner of the "Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto," earning an additional $5,000 prize.
Shmukler was interviewed for a story previewing the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition that aired on KDFW-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth on June 1. Following the competition, an article about Shmukler was posted on The Kansas City Star's website on June 20 and published in the print edition of the paper on June 26.
Straub Construction won a 2022 Building Excellence Award from the Kansas City Chapter of the Associated General Contractors for the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center and School of Business.
A blood drive is scheduled at the McCoy Meetin' House on July 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 2022 Park University Golf Scramble is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17, at The National Golf Club of Kansas City.
In addition to these events, several Park University faculty members have been recognised for their accomplishments. Matt Harris, assistant professor of political science, published an article titled "Primaries are getting more crowded with candidates, and that's good news for extremists and bad news for voters" on The Conversation. John Hamilton, Ph.D., associate professor of criminal justice administration, was interviewed for stories that aired on KMBZ-FM in Kansas City on June 14, discussing the correlation between rising temperatures and rising crime rates. Amy Hersch, adjunct instructor of interior design, was highlighted in the National Kitchen and Bath Association's Designer Showcase section of Kansas City Homes & Style magazine on June 7.
Park University was featured throughout the June 11 issue of The Independent, Kansas City's journal of society. Mallory Jansen, '13, and the business she co-founded, were highlighted on the KCUR-FM (Kansas City) website on June 20. An article about Ilya Shmukler was published on KCUR-FM in Kansas City (the parent station to KWJC-FM) on June 13.
The Department of Nursing White Coat Ceremony is scheduled for August 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel. The Opening Convocation is scheduled for August 19 at Noon at Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel and virtually.
The Art Exhibition, "Fate," by Laurel DeFreece and Robin VanHoozer, is on display at the Campanella Gallery (Norrington Center) until July 29. Ben Zibers, associate vice president of the Gilbert (Ariz.) Campus, graduated from the Gilbert Chamber Foundation's Gilbert Leadership program.
The Austin (Texas) Campus Commencement is scheduled for August 5 at 7 p.m. at Great Hills Baptist Church, Austin. The Goodfellow Air Force Base Campus/Lackland Air Force Base Campus/Randolph Air Force Base Campus Commencement is scheduled for August 6 at St. George Maronite Center's Phoenician Ballroom, San Antonio, Texas (TBA).
Nathalie Brech, director of Park University's Lenexa (Kan.) Campus, graduated from the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Lenexa program. Harris was interviewed for stories related to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and how the decision affects those in Missouri and Kansas on KMBZ-FM in Kansas City on June 27. Harris was also interviewed for stories related to the Missouri Senate race on WDAF-TV on June 28.
