Da Nang to Host International Mathematics Contest
25th Vietnam International Mathematics Competition (VIMC 2025) to Take Place in Da Nang
The 25th Vietnam International Mathematics Competition (VIMC 2025) is set to take place in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 14 to 19, 2025, at the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (VKU), Da Nang University [1][2][4][5].
This prestigious event targets exceptional mathematics students in grades 5 to 8 from around the world. A total of 526 contestants are expected to participate, including students from Vietnam and 30 other countries, with 181 teachers and 100 international guests [1][5]. Vietnam’s team consists of 32 students [5].
The competition consists of two main rounds: individual and team competitions, with tasks involving argumentation and debate to maximize points [1][3][4]. The subjects covered include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, combinations, logic, and strategic thinking. Exams will be conducted in English, with local language translations available to aid understanding [1][3][4].
In addition to the main competition, VIMC 2025 will feature seminars and workshops on teaching methods, curriculum innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence, as well as cultural exchanges and sightseeing programs for participants [1][4].
The venue, VKU, is praised for its modern facilities meeting international standards, including examination rooms, accommodations, conference spaces, dining, medical, and security facilities [2].
This is the first time Da Nang hosts the event, marking a significant step in its international educational integration [1][3][4]. The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is an annual academic event held on a rotating basis among member countries, with the specific country hosting the 2025 event yet to be announced [3].
At the event, students will compete in two divisions: EMIC (Upper Primary Education) for students in Grades 5-6, and IWYMIC (lower secondary education) with students in Grades 7-8 during the 2024-2025 academic year [3].
Recently, Vietnamese students have shown impressive performances in other international mathematics competitions. Vietnamese students won 11 gold, 16 silver, and 28 bronze medals at the Young IMC in Singapore earlier this month [6]. At the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad in Japan, Vietnam won one championship and 10 gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals [7].
