Laidback Guide to Finding the Perfect Middle School for Your Kid

Navigating the middle school years can be a rocky road for many kids. They face a wave of emotional and academic challenges, often alone. It's crucial to have a reliable companion on this journey, especially at this critical age.

That's where Rittel School shines - providing holistic support for teenagers, from their academics to their emotional well-being and personal growth. We're currently welcoming applications for our upcoming academic year, covering grades 5-11. Our website offers parents an in-depth look at our unique approach to teenage education.

As we bid farewell to the old academic year, many parents contemplate switching schools, especially if their child seems disinterested or struggles with attendance in middle school.

But what exactly makes a school for teenagers, and how does Rittel School build connections with students in grades 5-11 to ensure they enjoy learning and succeed?

What is a School for Teenagers?

During their transition to middle school, kids' motivation for learning often wanes, as they become more focused on friends and socializing. This is a natural part of growing up and learning to navigate independence, but it can be worrisome for parents.

Understanding the unique characteristics of teenagers is key to creating a school environment that accommodates their age, psychological aspects, interests, and learning styles. Rittel School takes all these essential components into account:

  1. Acceptance: Our school fosters a welcoming environment where teenagers feel comfortable expressing themselves and developing their unique personalities.
  2. Caring Adults: We have teachers who aren't just knowledgeable in their subjects but also approachable and interested in engaging students in stimulating conversations about science, life, and personal matters.
  3. Rebellious Spirit: We work with teenagers who are no longer as obedient or diligent as elementary school students, but are skeptical, inquisitive, critical, and assertive. Our approach acknowledges their independence and encourages healthy debate.
  4. Challenging Education: Our educational program is designed to push students beyond their comfort zones while providing the support they need to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
  5. Broadened Horizons: Rittel School helps students discover their potential, strengths, and weaknesses, and teaches them to adapt to societal and professional rules.
  6. Quality Education and Comfort: We pride ourselves on offering quality education and ensuring students feel comfortable and supported throughout their journey.

Our educational philosophy revolves around two core principles: achieving high academic success and creating a comfortable, supportive environment.

Our educational program goes beyond just providing knowledge in subjects; it also develops students' skills in independent work and critical thinking. We employ modern teaching methods that engage our teenage students, such as the Singaporean "teach less, learn more" system, which emphasizes the quality and application of information instead of the volume of it.

Our students don't need extra lessons because everything they need is already incorporated into the learning process. For those who require advanced knowledge, we develop individual programs, and they have opportunities to participate in olympiads, competitions, and projects. In the upper grades, we focus on preparing students for state exams - Unified State Exams (USE) and General State Exams (GSE). Our graduates consistently demonstrate high results in final exams. Our daily English lessons, including lessons with native speakers, open up opportunities for students worldwide and boost their career prospects. Students can officially confirm their English proficiency by taking an international exam and receiving a corresponding certificate.

Beyond academics, we make student comfort and well-being a priority. Class sizes are limited to 14 students, we provide nutritious meals, and we organize regular field trips, thematic weeks, expert meetings, and career guidance tours.

Our day is structured to balance academics and extracurricular activities: mornings are for lessons, and afternoons are for project work and club activities. This format ensures a healthy balance between learning and self-development, making education at Rittel School both effective and enjoyable for students, parents, and teachers.

Tutoring System: Support in the Moment

During the transitional years, teenagers face numerous challenges: learning to be independent, building social connections, and planning their future careers. At this stage, adult guidance is invaluable.

To tackle these tasks, Rittel School has implemented a tutoring service. Our tutors address immediate issues, such as building relationships with classmates and teachers, improving communication, managing stress, setting learning goals, and finding strategies to achieve them.

Our tutors regularly communicate with families, sharing feedback on students' academic progress and emotional well-being. This collaborative effort sets an example for schools across the country.

Why Trust and Partnership with Parents Matter

We believe that effective education relies on honest and regular communication between the institution and families. Conversations with parents aren't just formalities; they're essential components of the educational process. As a result, parents receive detailed reports after each module, covering both academic performance and tutor summaries. Teachers and the director are always approachable and ready to discuss a child's progress.
