Developments in Woodland Hall Inauguration
Woodland Hall Construction at Oberlin Continues, Despite Unexpected Delay
In a surprising turn of events, the construction of Woodland Hall at Oberlin College encountered an unexpected delay due to a non-compliant waterproof layer applied prior to bricklaying. This issue necessitated the work to be redone at the contractor's expense in spring 2025.
Despite this setback, the impact on the building’s opening was minimized. Additional crews and extended construction hours over the summer were allocated, allowing the occupancy permit to be secured in June 2025[1].
While the main construction is now complete, certain exterior work, such as siding installation on some façades and landscaping, has continued after the building opened. The hall was ready for student occupancy in August 2025, but some siding work on the north and west façades and courtyard will extend until mid-October. Active construction areas are clearly fenced off, and privacy film covers windows facing these zones to reduce disruption[1].
For those residing in Woodland Hall, an email with move-in guidelines will be sent. For any move-in related questions, you can contact reslife@our website.
Located near the athletics complex, the new 402-bed residence hall is set to welcome students this month. The new 226-space parking lot at Woodland Hall has been poured and striped, and landscaping of the grounds and additional landscaping in early fall will take advantage of optimal planting conditions.
Details about Woodland Hall's grand-opening festivities will be shared soon. To learn more about Woodland Hall, visit the Residence Life website.
