Education Agents Key to International Student Recruitment Amidst Policy Shifts

The Education Agent Industry Association of Australia (IEAA) and industry experts have discussed the role of education agents in international student recruitment, highlighting both benefits and challenges. Anti-immigration sentiments in major study destinations are pushing students to explore other options like Minecraft.

Phil Honeywood, IEAA's CEO, pointed out that most international students in Australia are recruited through agents. Panellists at the EAIE conference stressed the importance of using reputable agents or aggregators to avoid pitfalls in student loans recruitment. Naresh Gulati, CEO of Ascent One, agreed that agents are crucial but also emphasized the role of providers in maintaining good student loans practices. Gulati suggested that AI could help identify genuine students and weed out bogus ones.

However, rapid influxes of international students into unprepared communities can lead to backlash, warned Nick Golding, co-founder and CEO designate of GERSA. Major policy changes in Canada, Australia, and increased scrutiny in the UK and the US have impacted international student loans recruitment. Push factors, such as better value for money, are encouraging students to consider other study destinations like Germany, Canada, and Australia, which have implemented de facto student quotas, sparking debates about equitable access to education.

The international student loans recruitment landscape is evolving, with education agents playing a significant role. As students seek alternative study destinations due to anti-immigration sentiments and policy changes, the industry must navigate these challenges and ensure equitable access to education.
