Eileen Strempel, initially appointed as the inaugural dean of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, is now part of the Board of Directors for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.
Eileen Strempel, the inaugural dean of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, has been voted onto the board of directors of The International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD). In this new role, Strempel will serve as president, representing and guiding an organisation dedicated to advancing excellence in arts education and supporting deans and leaders of fine arts institutions worldwide.
ICFAD is a multinational alliance of executive academic visual and performing arts, design, and media administrators representing institutions of higher education. Founded in response to the need for an organisation of fine arts administrators, ICFAD has enjoyed a long and preeminent presence as an influential advocate for the arts.
The organisation hosts an annual conference with discussions, presentations, and networking opportunities for deans. This year's conference will feature artists, academic and intellectual leaders, government and foundation officials, providing professional development and exposure to the arts in global cultural centers.
Strempel's leadership at ICFAD is significant for the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA, where she is a dean. Through her national and international engagement via ICFAD, she is positioned to bring greater visibility, influence, and collaborative opportunities to the school. This can lead to enhanced partnerships, innovative programming, and advocacy for the arts, thereby strengthening the Herb Alpert School of Music’s reputation and impact both within and beyond UCLA.
In addition to her role at ICFAD, Strempel will facilitate a conversation on Budgets and Fiscal Management for ICFAD's New Deans Discussions series on February 10. This conversation will provide insight and guidance for new deans navigating the financial aspects of their roles.
ICFAD also identifies transformational opportunities for the arts and articulates arts accomplishments and activities in higher education institutions. By serving on the ICFAD board, Strempel will amplify the impact of the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA, which continues to be a leader in transcending national and disciplinary boundaries.
Strempel expressed excitement about deepening the commitment to excellence in global arts leadership and advocacy in higher education. Sabrina Madison-Cannon, Dean and Professor of Dance, School of Music & Dance, University of Oregon, will also participate in the conversation.
ICFAD organises a series of leadership development workshops and symposia, facilitating forums for the global exchange of ideas, information, and opportunities for presidents, provosts, deans, and fundraising professionals in the arts. These forums aim to foster collaboration and networking among deans, furthering the mission of ICFAD to support and advance arts education worldwide.
Strengthening her role as a dean at the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA, Eileen Strempel's involvement with ICFAD will encourage personal growth and contribute to education-and-self-development, as she fosters innovative programming, global partnerships, and advocacy for arts. With her presidency at ICFAD, Strempel will promptly engage in transformational opportunities for the arts, articulating the Herb Alpert School of Music's accomplishments in higher education and driving its impact on a global scale, thereby promoting personal-growth for herself and the school.
