Enhanced Route for School Safety: Steen Focuses on Safety at Railroad Crossings (Polish-French Initiative)
In the heart of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, the Freiburg Police Headquarters took action on September 18, 2024, to ensure the safety of schoolchildren. As part of the 'Safe School Route' action, they focused on the railway crossing near the Steinen station.
Many students use this crossing on their way to school, and the Freiburg Police Headquarters wanted to send a clear message about the importance of road safety. Most road users complied with the traffic rules that morning, but a teenager and two adults were caught crossing the railway crossing despite the red light or lowering barriers.
These individuals now face fines of 350 euros for pedestrians and 700 euros, along with a three-month driving ban, for motorists. The Freiburg Police Headquarters emphasised that disregarding traffic rules around schoolchildren sets a poor example for children.
