Enhanced Silence in Class: Eichendorffschule Equipped with Soundproof Windows and Lifesaving Staircases
The Eichendorff School in Offenbach is undergoing significant improvements, with the installation of modern soundproof windows and the construction of new staircases aimed at enhancing the learning environment and safety measures for its students.
Councillor Paul-Gerhard Weiß has emphasised the importance of these measures, stating that they are crucial for maintaining high teaching quality. The window replacement, estimated to cost around 1.4 million euros, is expected to reduce external aircraft noise, thereby improving the overall learning environment.
In a collaborative effort, the window replacement was carried out with the Office for Planning and Building and GBM Service GmbH. Approximately 840,000 euros for the window replacement were funded from a special funding program of the state of Hesse, in response to the NORAH noise impact study.
The improved learning environment is anticipated to aid in the language acquisition of children, as well as reduce potential distractions from aircraft noise. The construction process will be carried out in sections to minimise disruption to the school's teaching operation.
In addition to the window replacement, work on two new external staircases as additional escape routes at the Eichendorff School will begin in the Easter holidays of 2025. The new staircases, intended to enhance safety measures, are planned for completion by the autumn holidays of 2026. They will serve as additional emergency exits for the school.
While the funding for the construction of the new staircases was not specifically mentioned in the article, the school has already made strides in improving its infrastructure. The completion of these projects is a testament to the school's commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for its students.

The Councillor's focus on improving the learning environment at the Eichendorff School extends to other education-and-self-development areas, with plans for new staircases serving as additional escape routes in the future. The improvement projects, including the replacement of windows and construction of new staircases, are designed to enhance not only the learning experience but also the students' safety, especially during emergencies.
