Environmental leaders from across the country gathering in Kentucky to discuss eco-friendly strategies and education initiatives
The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is set to host its 48th Annual International Conference and 16th Research Symposium from October 15-19, 2019, at the Lexington Convention Center in Lexington, KY. This prestigious event, which attracts over 1,000 environmental educators from more than thirty countries, is a testament to the association's global reach, spanning over 30 countries.
Last year's conference in Spokane, WA, was praised for its diverse attendance from K-12, university, public institutions, non-profits, and businesses. Building on this success, the upcoming conference promises to be an exciting and informative gathering for environmental educators, researchers, and practitioners.
The conference theme, "educating for a more just and sustainable future," focuses on social equity, shared prosperity, and environmental integrity. This year, the event will feature over 400 sessions focused on various aspects of environmental education for professionals at all levels.
The conference will kick off with keynote speeches by leading environmental educators and researchers. Notable speakers include Mona Chalabi, Data Editor and Journalist for The Guardian, John Flicker, President of Prescott College, and an international panel led by four Environmental Education 30 Under 30 awardees.
In addition to keynote speeches, the conference offers workshops and breakout sessions on current environmental education topics, networking opportunities, the presentation of the latest research findings, and special events. Special events at the conference include a Share Fair for nonprofit organisations and an Authors' Corner.
The conference will also host the Environmental Professionals of Colour annual meeting, further emphasising the association's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Judy Braus, Executive Director at the North American Association for Environmental Education, expresses her excitement about the conference.
The NAAEE supports a network of over 20,000 educators and has over 56 state, regional, and provincial affiliate organisations. The conference is hosted in partnership with the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education.
