Epidemiology Team Warns of Five Diarrheal Illnesses in August
The Epidemiology team is set to introduce five enteric, or diarrheal, illnesses in August. Meanwhile, health experts urge precautions to prevent these conditions.
To protect against diarrheal illnesses, consult a primary care physician if symptoms arise. The CDC recommends thorough handwashing, including under nails, on backs of hands, and on wrists, to prevent infections. Avoid cross-contamination by separating produce and meat, and preventing meat juice drips. Avoid swimming, wading, or swallowing water from contaminated bodies of water. Cook meat to safe minimum internal temperatures to kill bacteria. Properly washing produce also helps prevent diarrheal illnesses. Handwashing is crucial after changing diapers, handling animals, or preparing food. Avoid cooking for others and entering bodies of water until diarrhea has cleared for at least 24 hours.
The Epidemiology team's upcoming presentation will shed light on five diarrheal illnesses. Until then, follow these preventive measures to protect yourself and others from diarrheal illnesses.
