Evolution of Workforce: Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Automation on the Job Market
At the "Future-Proof Careers: The Evolving Labor Market" event, which was part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Artem Kumpelevich, Senior Managing Director of Avito, offered valuable insights about the role of technology in shaping the job market. The discussion centered around the drastic impact of modern tech on professions, emphasizing the necessity for professionals to adapt and embrace digital skills to thrive in the new workforce.
Modern Tech and Job Evolution
The imminent future holds several significant trends, with AI tools dominating the scene, and flexible employment formats taking the lead. Furthermore, various novel professions are arising at the intersection of tech and human skills. For instance, robot maintenance fitters, agricultural drone operators, machine learning specialists, software engineers, and robotic welding specialists are in high demand in today's market.
Thriving in this dynamic labor market requires a knack for learning and adapting quickly, regardless of one's professional field. As the market becomes increasingly competitive, continuous learning becomes vital for career success. "Businesses don't need future professions; they need dynamic and adaptable professionals right now," stressed Kumpelevich. According to Avito's Job Board, job vacancies requiring retraining have tripled over the year, particularly in construction (28%) and logistics (11%).
A Glimpse into Transformation across Industries
This transformation reaches every sector, from tech to traditional sectors. AI and automation are no longer luxury items for businesses but essential tools for productivity across industries. For example, around half of the HR specialists utilize AI for candidate selection, and job listings related to AI have quadrupled over the year. On the flip side, technology also works for job seekers, as AI-powered resume creators can craft resumes in as little as 30-40 seconds. However, despite AI's advancements, the final decisions are still left to human experts who make use of AI to simplify repetitive tasks and focus on creativity and innovation.
Artem Kumpel's Perspective
According to Artem Kumpel, Senior Managing Director of Avito, "[Technologies] emerge when there's a business demand for them. AI and automation are spreading across more industries, and more professions require not just traditional knowledge but also tech skills. AI is a tool that makes work easier, but it doesn't replace humans."
This shifting landscape calls for lifelong learning and openness to change, as the market continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Embracing technology allows workers to navigate and excel in the new professional environment, highlighting the significance of adaptability and constant development in the here and now.
