North Shore Historical Museum's Annual Gala: "Gatsby at 100!" The North Shore Historical Museum is set to host its Annual Gala themed "Gatsby at 100!" on an opulent evening in Glen Cove, NY. The event, scheduled to take place at the Webb Institute, formerly the Herbert L. Pratt Estate, The Braes, promises an immersive experience of the 1920s, with a lavish buffet dinner, live music, and a special lecture. The Museum's mission, "Preserving Yesterday for Tomorrow", is at the heart of this grand affair. Proceeds from the gala will support the Museum's endeavours to foster a deeper understanding of the region's cultural legacy and to preserve the vibrant history of Long Island's North Shore. One of the highlights of the evening will be a lecture delivered by Dr. Richard Harris, an assistant dean at Webb Institute in Glen Cove and a longtime military history student. His research has shed light on the lesser-known stories of the past, including the service of nearly 40 men from Glen Cove in the Harlem Hellfighters during World War I. His work led to a 2018 exhibit at the North Shore Historical Museum and helped organize recognition efforts, culminating in the Harlem Hellfighters receiving the Congressional Gold Medal. In addition to the gala, the Museum is announcing the upcoming opening of a new exhibit commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Locust Valley Quaker Meetinghouse. This exhibit will explore the Meetinghouse's enduring legacy and its role in shaping the values of the North Shore community. The Museum brings the past to life through exhibitions, educational programs, and community events. Its website, www.nshmgc.org, offers gala tickets, journal space, sponsorship opportunities, and updates on the new exhibit. Seating is limited, and early reservations are strongly encouraged as tickets will not be sold at the door. Gatsby-inspired attire is encouraged for the gala, making it a perfect opportunity to don your best flapper dress or dapper tuxedo. Join the North Shore Historical Museum for an evening of elegance and enlightenment as we celebrate the Roaring Twenties and the rich history of Long Island's North Shore.
