Experiment with Enchanted Dairy Science

The Summer Science Camp, hosted by Erica from What Do We Do All Day?, is sharing a captivating science and art activity for kids - the Magic Milk Experiment. This intriguing experiment, which can be found on the Super Cool Science Experiments for Kids page, is part of a series of engaging activities suitable for young learners.

To perform the Magic Milk Experiment, you'll need a dish of milk, food coloring, cotton swabs, and dish soap. Start by pouring a shallow layer of milk (whole milk works best) into a plate or a shallow dish. Add a few drops of food coloring onto the surface of the milk, creating a vibrant and visually appealing display.

Next, dip a cotton swab into dish soap and gently touch the milk’s surface, ideally right in the middle of a drop of food coloring. As you make contact, watch the colours swirl and dance dramatically around the dish, creating a mesmerizing rainbow effect.

This experiment works due to the dish soap breaking down the fat in the milk, causing the food coloring to move and swirl visibly. It's a fun and easy way to illustrate the concepts of surface tension and fat molecule interactions in milk.

The Magic Milk Experiment can also be used as a colour mixing activity by adding primary colours to the dish. Children can experiment with adding food colouring in different places and touching the dish soap to different spots, allowing them to explore the properties of milk and soap in a hands-on and creative manner.

The Summer Science Camp takes place every Thursday this summer, and the Magic Milk Experiment is just one of the classic science experiments being shared. The Super Cool Science Experiments for Kids page contains a wealth of other activities that kids will enjoy, all designed to make learning about science fun and accessible.

So, gather your ingredients, and get ready to create some magic with the Magic Milk Experiment!

Science, through the Magic Milk Experiment, offers an exciting blend of education-and-self-development and health-and-wellness for kids. As part of Erica's Summer Science Camp, this captivating science experiment combines science experiments with artistic expression, making learning about science more engaging and enjoyable.
