"Famous film 'The Sound of Music' Prime for 60th Anniversary 4K Blu- ray Launch, Including Fresh Restoration"
Disney is set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the classic film The Sound of Music with a 4K HDR remastered release, both in cinemas and on 4K Blu-ray disc. The cinematic run will commence on September 12 in over 1,000 cinemas across more than 30 countries, and extend until September 17.
The restoration process, which took nine months, involved digital scanning, cleaning up issues, and presentation in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The remastered film will be presented in a 2.20:1 aspect ratio and will feature Dolby Atmos surround sound.
The 4K Blu-ray release of The Sound of Music will be available from September 23. This release will not be a Limited Edition, but will include a third disc of bonus features. These features will include a documentary, filming location features, music stages, vintage programs, rare treasures, publicity materials, and galleries.
The 4K Blu-ray disc will be a 100GB disc, rather than the 66GB discs used for most of Disney's 4K Blu-ray releases. The release will also feature a sing-along version, two commentaries (one with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Charmian Carr, Dee Dee Wood & Johannes von Trapp, and one with director Robert Wise), as well as bonus disc content.
In addition to The Sound of Music, Disney is also releasing 4K Blu-ray remasters of 'Tron' and 'Tron: Legacy'. The 40th anniversary Steelbook 4K Blu-ray release of Back to the Future includes over 90 minutes of new bonus features. Disney is also celebrating 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' 50th Anniversary with a new restoration for cinema and 4K Blu-ray release.
The international cinematic run of the remastered The Sound of Music will start on September 20. The film will not have a Steelbook version of the 4K Blu-ray packaging. Fans of the timeless film can look forward to experiencing The Sound of Music like never before, with improved visuals and audio quality.
