Georgetown Marks LGBTQ+ History Month with OUTober Celebrations
Georgetown University, a renowned Catholic and Jesuit institution, is celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month, affectionately known as 'OUTober'. The university marks this occasion by honouring the initial establishment of an LGBTQ Resource Center in 2008, a trailblazing move in Catholic and Jesuit higher education.
Georgetown invites all to explore its 'Celebrating LGBTQIA+ History and Culture at Georgetown' landing page throughout OUTober. The university promises regular updates with new stories and event information. The month-long celebration includes a National Coming Out Day campus photo event on Oct. 16 at 12:45 p.m. in front of Healy Hall.
Visitors can also interact with the LGBTQ Resource Center at a table in Red Square on Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is part of a range of activities planned for OUTober, which aims to reflect on the histories and contributions of LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff within Georgetown. The university uses this opportunity to promote equity and inclusion.
Georgetown University's OUTober celebrations not only honour the past but also look towards a future where all individuals feel valued and respected. By commemorating the establishment of its LGBTQ Resource Center and hosting various events, the university continues to foster an inclusive environment for its LGBTQ+ community.
