Gera Library Announces 'Quill & Stardust' Writing Competition Winners
The Gera library has announced the winners of its third annual writing competition, 'Quill & Stardust'. The contest, which aims to foster creativity and a love for reading, saw 56 entries from young writers across various locations in Germany. The competition was supported by Sparkasse Gera-Greiz, the State School Office of East Thuringia, and the Library Support Association 'Book and Reader' e. V.
Participants had to choose one of two magic hats containing ten words each and use all of them in their story, limited to two A4 pages. The stories were evaluated by a five-member jury based on criteria such as expression, grammar, word choice, tension, individuality, and originality, with a maximum of 200 points. The majority of entries came from the 9 to 11 age group, with 26 texts, followed by 12 to 14-year-olds with 19 texts, and 15 to 18-year-olds with 11 texts. Most submissions were made on the last possible day, causing some tension among organizers and jurors.
The winners in each age group were Mira Ladusch (9-11), Charlotte Kielstein (12-14), and Leonie Körmer (15-18). The library hopes that the competition will continue to inspire young writers and strengthen their connection with the city library.
The Gera library's 'Quill & Stardust' writing competition has once again brought out the creativity in young writers across Germany. With the support of local organizations, the competition has fostered a love for reading and writing in its participants. The library looks forward to hosting the competition again in the future.
