German-Kazakh University Seeks €30M for Permanent Campus
The German-Kazakh University (DKU) is seeking around 30 million euros to secure its own campus area and buildings, aiming to establish itself as a permanent, scientifically independent, and accredited educational institution adhering to German quality standards. Currently, the DKU is renting two buildings in Almaty at a high cost, which hinders its sustainable development.
The DKU, a transnational network university with strategic partnerships in Kazakhstan and Germany, focuses on four key areas: 'green' hydrogen production, mining, the food industry, and social identity. These foci are embedded in broader innovation areas such as energy transformation, resource security, and agricultural development in Central Asia. The DKU offers degree programs in engineering, computer science, logistics, business administration, and international relations.
Anke Rehlinger, Federal Council President, has praised the DKU as a cornerstone of German-Kazakh cooperation in education. Yevgeniy Bolgert, a senator in the Kazakh parliament, can advocate for the DKU's interests at the national level. The DKU receives around 2.5 million euros annually from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany to support its operations.
The DKU's goal is to acquire its own campus to facilitate sustainable development and growth. With its unique focus areas and strategic partnerships, it is poised to contribute significantly to the educational landscape and innovation in both Kazakhstan and Germany.
