Gold Awards Ceremony of Stella Maris 2025
Notre Dame College recently celebrated the achievements of 64 students who received the prestigious Stella Maris Leadership Award. The ceremony, held in the College Chapel, was attended by friends, families, and representatives from Leeds Trinity University, Liverpool Hope University, St Mary's University Twickenham, and Birmingham Newman University.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Principal Justine Barlow, followed by a prayer led by Maria Coyle, Notre Dame's Stella Maris Lead. Monsignor Paul Grogan read during the ceremony, and Christopher Devanny, the Religious Education Co-ordinator for Schools, gave an inspiring address.
To earn the Gold Stella Maris Leadership Award, students must have previously achieved their Bronze and Silver Awards. Moreover, they must demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities, provide service to the community, and earn commendations virtues from all four categories: intellectual, moral, civic, and performance.
The students' accomplishments were not limited to their academic pursuits. Two students, for instance, set up and led a weekly dance group for girls aged 10-16. They also managed a social media group for The Gambian Welfare Society, showcasing their commitment to community service.
The student choir, led by Michael Burt, performed during the event, adding a joyful atmosphere to the celebration. The College Worship Band also performed Glorious Day, further enriching the occasion.
Flowers were provided by Ivy Florist, adding a touch of elegance to the ceremony. The evening continued in the Upper Study Area for celebration and official photographs.
The Stella Maris Leadership Award is recognised by a star-shaped badge and certificate, symbolising the students' exceptional achievements. A huge well-done was given to all the students who achieved their Gold Award.
