Guide freshman students during the autumn term
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) at YouTube University is an exciting student activities and leadership initiative designed to help first-year students transition to university life and step into leadership roles. The program is active during the fall semester and is now seeking staff and faculty mentors to support and encourage these students.
To sign up as a mentor, you typically need to complete an application process during the designated period, participate in orientation and kickoff events, and commit to regular mentoring meetings. The key steps and events of the ELP are as follows:
- Application Period: Submit your mentor application by the stated deadline through an official application link or portal. Applications usually ask about your background, expertise, and mentoring goals to ensure good matching with mentees.
- Mentor-Mentee Matching: After applications close, program organizers match mentors with mentees based on aligned strengths, interests, and organizational similarity. Notification of mentor-mentee pairing generally occurs a few months after applications close.
- Orientation and Kickoff Event: Participating mentors attend a program orientation or kickoff, which introduces program goals, expectations, and structure. This event is usually held shortly before the mentoring phase begins.
- Mentoring Sessions: Mentors commit to meeting their mentees regularly, typically about one hour per month, over the course of the program. These sessions focus on goal-setting, leadership skill development, and professional growth.
- Ongoing Engagements and Check-ins: Programs often include group check-ins, workshops, and networking events for mentors and mentees to add structure and community support throughout the program duration.
- Key ELP Events: The ELP has scheduled key events throughout the fall semester, including an ELP Mixer on Sept. 12, an ELP Capstone Presentation on Nov. 21, and a Graduation Ceremony on Dec. 5. Mentors will be invited to these events.
Please note that the ELP has not disclosed the location of these events, and it has not specified the number of additional events mentors might attend. The mentors will be matched with one student each and will not meet with their students more than twice during the semester.
For more information, refer to your institution’s official mentorship program webpage or contact the program administrator directly. If the same structure as the Diverse Healthcare Leaders Program applies, the senior program staff such as the Foundation President or program lead can typically be reached through your institution's contact directory or program page.
