Gulf Giants Appoint Jonathan Trott as Head Coach for ILT20 Season
Jonathan Trott, the former England batsman, has been named as the head coach of the Gulf Giants for the upcoming International League T20 (ILT20) season. Trott announced his new role just 24 hours after confirming his departure from Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
The Gulf Giants, who won the inaugural ILT20 edition in 2023, have struggled to maintain consistency since then, bowing out in Qualifier 2 in 2024 and finishing second from bottom in 2025. However, the new leadership, including Trott, aims to turn things around for the upcoming season.
Trott expressed his ambition for the Gulf Giants, stating that the team aims to empower players, build a strong environment, and shape a title-winning squad. The ILT20 auction, scheduled for September 30 in Dubai, will be a crucial step in assembling the squad for the upcoming season.
The Gulf Giants have retained key players such as James Vince, Aayan Khan, Mark Adair, Blessing Muzarabani, and Gerhard Erasmus for the upcoming season. The team has also made some exciting signings, including Moeen Ali, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Shane Bond, the bowling coach for the Gulf Giants, shares the team's ambition for the upcoming season. Bond, who has previous T20 coaching experience with teams such as Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, and Paarl Royals in SA20, will be instrumental in shaping the bowling strategy for the team.
The Gulf Giants have also appointed Andrew Puttick as batting coach, Jim Troughton as fielding coach, and Nick Lee as fitness coach. These appointments are expected to strengthen the team's performance across all aspects of the game.
The ILT20 tournament is scheduled to run from December 2, 2025, to January 4, 2026, in Dubai. The Gulf Giants have previously been identified as one of the most competitive sides in the ILT20. With the new leadership and the exciting signings, the team is set to make a strong comeback in the upcoming season.
