Handcrafted Fine Motor Holiday Sewing Project: Christmas Tree
During the festive season, Christmas-themed activities are not only fun but also serve as a platform for children to develop their fine motor skills. Recently, two individuals embarked on a Christmas Tree Sewing Activity that proved both enjoyable and beneficial.
The materials for the activity were simple, consisting of a green plastic canvas, plastic needles, cotton braiding cord, assorted pony beads, and sparkly pony beads. No new materials were introduced in the activity.
The participants, whose names were not provided, found the activity challenging at first. However, with encouragement and the memory of a previous sewing project, they persevered. I assisted them with tying knots at each end of the lacing cord or thread, while Miss E practiced scissor skills by cutting the ends of the thread.
The Christmas trees, once decorated with the pony beads attached using the lacing cord or thread, brought a sense of achievement to the participants. The sparkly pony beads, in particular, were a favorite among them.
This activity was designed to improve fine motor skills, and the participants' finished Christmas trees are a testament to its success. Engaging in the Christmas Tree Sewing Activity not only provided a platform for participants to enhance their fine motor skills but also allowed them to explore fashion-and-beauty choices through decorating the trees with pony beads. As they progressed with the project, they were also able to practice learning new skills such as knot tying and scissor use, which aligns with activities from the education-and-self-development category.
