MTN Uganda Opens Inclusive ICT Lab at Mvara Secondary School in Arua City
MTN Uganda has taken a significant step towards promoting digital inclusivity by opening an inclusive ICT Lab at Mvara Secondary School in Arua City. This initiative aims to provide digital opportunities for learners with special needs, thereby enhancing their digital literacy and accessibility in learning environments.
The ICT Lab, equipped with 10 computers, a JAWS screen reader, Bluetooth speakers, and other assistive technology, is a testament to MTN Uganda's commitment to digital inclusion and empowerment programs. The lab is designed to serve over 100 learners with special needs, offering a year of free internet access.
The project is a collaborative effort involving Sense International Uganda, the Arua education team, and the school's Education Officer for Special Needs, Annet Dilea, and City Education Officer, Asiku Geoffrey. Annet Dilea described the lab as a "gift of dignity and equal opportunity," while Asiku Geoffrey stated that the lab serves as a reminder to every child that they have a place in the digital world.
Philip Odoi, MTN's Regional Commercial Head for Northern Uganda, emphasized that the lab is more than just technology. He described it as an opportunity for every learner to succeed, regardless of their ability. He further stated, "This lab is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Uganda and fostering an inclusive learning environment in Arua City."
MTN Uganda acknowledged its partners, Sense International Uganda, for their collaboration in this initiative. The company expressed its gratitude for their support in creating a space that caters to the needs of learners with special needs and promotes the importance of inclusive education within the community.
