The German Association of Engineers (VDI) has released a comprehensive impulse paper titled 'Impulses for Education and Qualification of the Future.' This paper, developed in collaboration with experts from various industries, covers the entire education chain, from daycare to continuing education.

The VDI impulse paper is part of the initiative 'Zukunft Deutschland 2050,' aimed at maintaining Germany's strength as a technology location in international competition. The paper presents 28 practical examples on how STEM education can be designed to be future-proof, addressing everyone active in education, from kindergarten to continuing education.

VDI labor market expert Ingo Rauhut predicts a sharp increase in demand for engineers due to the retirement of the baby boomer generation, necessary public investment in infrastructure, security, and climate. He emphasises that targeted investments in education and training are necessary to secure Germany's innovative strength and competitiveness as an engineering location.

Demographic change will further exacerbate the shortage of skilled workers in the engineering professions. However, the current situation presents an opportunity for people in engineering professions to be qualified for new, promising technologies through targeted reskilling programs.

The VDI impulse paper serves as a resource for all education stakeholders to make education and qualification future-proof. It provides examples of good practice to make STEM education fit for the future, and the VDI supports engineers in this endeavour through their continuing education programs.

Ingo Rauhut, the VDI labor market expert, can be contacted for more information about the VDI's initiatives. His contact information is +49 211 6214-697 and [email protected].

The demand for highly qualified engineers is growing in future-oriented industries, making it crucial to ensure that STEM education is equipped to meet this demand. The VDI impulse paper is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
