Kirchhellen to Lead as Model Energy Village with State-Backed Climate Plan
Kirchhellen is set to become a model for innovative energy neighborhoods. The village plans to bolster its center, enhance climate resilience, and improve visitor experience, all while saving residents money on heating. The state's Prima-Klima program is backing these efforts, with Kirchhellen being one of eight municipalities in the Prima-Klima-Ruhr metropolis.
The village aims to expand its district heating network, which could save connected households around 60,000 euros annually on heating oil. This expansion is part of Kirchhellen's plan to generate more electricity from renewable sources than it consumes. District Mayor Hendrik Dierichs is confident that the program will be well received by the community.
The program, which runs until the end of 2029, has allocated 420,000 euros for renovation management. Technical Deputy Mayor Klaus Müller welcomed the approval of the program by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction and Digitalization. Kirchhellen's Klimaprojektteam is seeking inspiration from success stories to make the most of this opportunity.
Kirchhellen's innovative energy plans are set to strengthen its village center, improve climate resilience, and enhance the quality of stay for visitors. With the support of the Prima-Klima program and the confidence of local officials, the village is well on its way to becoming a leader in energy-efficient and climate-appropriate renovation.
