Leading Role in Language and Product Localization: Senior Product Manager Position Available
The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organisation behind Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects, is on the hunt for an experienced product manager to drive strategy for user experience on its multilingual Wikimedia sites.
As the product manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing a strategy that focuses on creating innovative, multilingual, and mobile-friendly products. Your goal will be to improve language diversity, accessibility, and usability across Wikimedia projects.
The role requires a deep understanding of the goals and challenges of users from diverse backgrounds, geographies, and experiences. You will work with a cross-functional team, collaborating with community members, researchers, engineers, designers, program managers, and external & internal partners to drive strategy, build the roadmap, and deliver products.
The team's current strategy and goals focus on several key areas:
- Developing language-support tools that enable easier content editing in many languages. This includes improvements to user interfaces such as template dialogs in VisualEditor and syntax highlighting with accessibility considerations like colourblind-friendly schemes.
- Fostering language diversity by creating infrastructure and products designed to support multiple languages efficiently and effectively, with an emphasis on localization and mobile usability.
- Engaging with communities and leveraging user feedback to continuously improve multilingual usability and the overall editing experience.
This approach aligns with Wikimedia's broader mission to make knowledge freely accessible in every language and on all devices, including mobile platforms.
