Mannheim Celebrates Councilor Prof. Dr. Achim Weizel's 85th Birthday

Today, October 2nd, marks the 85th birthday of Councilor Professor Dr. Achim Weizel. The long-standing Mannheim resident has made significant contributions to the city's medical and cultural landscapes.

Born in Hamburg, Weizel specialized in internal medicine and began his career in Mannheim. From 1980 to 1999, he served as the chief physician of the Medical Clinic at the Heinrich-Lanz Hospital. In 1999, he took on the role of medical director at the Diakonie Hospital, a position he held until 2004.

That same year, Weizel was elected to the city council for the Mannheim List. He has since served on various committees, including Culture, Integration, and Education & Health, demonstrating his commitment to the city's well-being.

Weizel's influence extends beyond the political sphere. He served as the faction leader from 2006 to 2023 and was a board member of the Mannheim Medical Association. His dedication to the city's medical community is also evident in his roles on the supervisory boards of the University Hospital and the Alten Feuerwache.

In recognition of his cultural contributions, Prof. Weizel is the honorary chairman of the Friends and Sponsors Association of the National Theatre. Despite extensive research, the identities of the other members of the selection committee for the Bloomaul-Orden alongside Prof. Weizel remain unclear.

His leadership, medical expertise, and commitment to the city's cultural scene have left an indelible mark. Weizel continues to serve as a council member, ensuring his legacy of dedication and service endures.
