Erwin Lautwein, the head of continuing education at ADFC Düsseldorf (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club), is set to offer in-person repair/maintenance and adjustment courses from September or October. These events aim to make cycling safer, reduce personal mistakes, and allow for better handling of mistakes made by others.

Lautwein, a long-standing cycling instructor, has been leading cycling education initiatives at ADFC Düsseldorf since January. The program focuses on enhancing cycling skills, safety, and awareness for adult cyclists of varying levels. It includes practical workshops, road safety training, and refresher courses designed to improve confident cycling in urban and rural settings.

The initiative has received high interest since its launch, with participants coming from various regions, including NRW and other federal states. The goal is to promote sustainable and safe cycling habits through hands-on learning and expert guidance.

These in-person events will be additional to the ongoing online courses that have already seen nine successful events. The in-person repair/maintenance and adjustment courses will involve hands-on work on one's own bicycle.

Lautwein is optimistic that in-person events will contribute to more consideration, tolerance, and safety in road traffic. "A timely shoulder check can prevent turning accidents, even when dealing with right of way," he emphasises.

The ADFC Düsseldorf program is open to both the public and its members. For more information about specific dates and registration, visit the ADFC Düsseldorf website or contact them at 0211 15835150.

ADFC chapters across Germany run similar continuing education programs, targeting novices, casual cyclists, and experienced riders wanting to improve their techniques or update their knowledge of cycling laws. Governments and NGOs support these initiatives to encourage cycling as a healthy, eco-friendly mode of transport.

In addition to the repair/maintenance and adjustment courses, ADFC Düsseldorf regularly hosts in-person cycling education events such as urban cycling workshops detailing infrastructure use and road sharing, technical workshops covering e-bike handling and maintenance, safety courses focusing on accident prevention and defensive riding, and group rides with instruction and feedback in real-traffic conditions.

Erwin Lautwein, as part of his ongoing commitment to fostering personal growth and learning in the realm of education-and-self-development, will also offer practical workshops focusing on personal-growth through bike repair/maintenance and adjustment, in addition to the already successful online courses at ADFC Düsseldorf, starting from September or October. The aim of these events is to not only improve cycling skills but also promote safety and awareness, allowing participants to handle mistakes made by others effectively.
