Microsoft & Coursera Launch Four New Entry-Level Certificates, Boosting UK's Tech Skills Initiative
Microsoft and Coursera have joined forces to launch four new entry-level certificates, focusing on cloud support and business analysis, and integrating generative AI into Microsoft's software ecosystem. The program, running from October 1 to December 31, offers over 200 certification courses catering to both beginners and experts.
The initiative aligns with the UK's 'Get Tech Certified' program, which places AI at its core, building on last year's 'Get Cloud Certified' campaign. Both Microsoft and Google are making their certification programs accessible to career changers, regardless of prior experience or university degrees.
Microsoft is enhancing its certificates' credibility by introducing 'Applied Skills' assessments, which provide practical tests. Meanwhile, Google is expanding its popular cybersecurity certificate to include practical AI applications, such as identifying code vulnerabilities or prioritizing threats.
In Scotland, a similar initiative was launched with Skills Development Scotland. This program offers free online courses from major tech companies like AWS, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, and Salesforce to citizens and small businesses. The UK's 'Get Tech Certified' program has also begun, offering free AI and cloud certifications to thousands of civil servants.
These partnerships and initiatives aim to upskill and reskill individuals and businesses, providing accessible pathways into tech careers. By offering free online courses and certification programs, Microsoft, Google, and the UK government are fostering a more tech-savvy and AI-ready workforce.
