Nature, Technology, and Community-Enriched Vacation Program: Mühlheim Students Immerse in Outdoor Experiences
In the picturesque city of Mühlheim, summer holiday activities were organized and funded by the school social workers, providing a unique opportunity for children and young people to gain new experiences, learn other perspectives, and grow together as a group.
Thirteen children and young people from the Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium (FEG) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule (FES) participated in a second program promoting exchange between the two schools. Originally planned to visit a climbing park, the outing was postponed due to bad weather. Instead, an interactive visit to the science and technology museum, Experiminta, in Frankfurt was organized.
Meanwhile, eleven children aged eight to eleven from the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule took part in a summer holiday activity day at the Offenbach weather park. A meteorologist from the German Weather Service gave a child-friendly presentation about weather phenomena, and the children explored the area, climbing in trees, and collecting flowers.
For a group of children, a trip to Schloss Freudenberg in Wiesbaden was organized, with a focus on a fire workshop. During the visit, the children were allowed to collect materials, ignite the fire, and prepare popcorn over the flames. Afterwards, they visited the Mühlheim youth center, which offers activities such as music, dance, billiards, table tennis, and pizza.
The highlight of the week for the participants of both programs was a visit to the Frankfurt Dialogue Museum. Here, they were guided through a completely dark parcours by blind or visually impaired people, sensitizing them for life with visual impairment and showing them how barrier-free living works in everyday life. Additionally, a tour on the topic of hearing and listening was organized at Schloss Freudenberg, where the children discovered various sound sources.
On Tuesday, the participants of both programs met in the youth center for games, crafting offers, sports activities, lunch, and ice cream. New friendships developed as they spent the day together, creating lasting memories.
These summer holiday programs, organized by the school social workers of the city of Mühlheim and funded from the means of the Offenbach district, were free of charge for all participants. It is recommended to check the official websites or local Mühlheim city resources for detailed, current summer holiday program information, as offerings can vary year to year and require direct contact to verify the latest schedules and registration details.
- The programs at the Dialogue Museum and Schloss Freudenberg were not just about education-and-self-development, they also offered opportunities for the children to learn other lifestyle perspectives, such as understanding life with visual impairment and barrier-free living.
- In addition to the summer holiday activities such as the fire workshop and weather park visit, the children also had a chance to explore some education-and-self-development focused venues like the science and technology museum, Experiminta, and the Frankfurt Dialogue Museum.
