Oberlin Offers Prestigious Scholarships for East Asian Studies
Oberlin College and Conservatory has opened applications for several prestigious awards and scholarships focused on Asian studies. These initiatives aim to foster East-West understanding and support students' academic pursuits and cultural exploration.
The annual Newton Prize competition invites all students to submit works on Asian themes that promote dialogue between Asia and the West. Meanwhile, the Gregory Levine Fellowship offers students the opportunity to extend their stay in Japan for research or exploration.
Asian Studies offers scholarships to recognise academic excellence and assist students in studying abroad. The Margaret Ribovich DiCenzo Prize for Academic Excellence in Asian Studies is awarded annually to graduating students majoring in AS. Additionally, two Oberlin seniors per year can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship to study at a Chinese university after graduation.
For students interested in Korean language and culture, the An Family Korean Language Summer Study Scholarship enables 3-4 students to study abroad in Seoul for a summer. Furthermore, the University of Hamburg's Center for Continuing Education (Zentrum für Weiterbildung, ZFW) awards the Levine Scholarship to students travelling abroad in the summer semester to deepen their Asian language skills and cultural insights.
These scholarships and awards not only recognise academic achievement but also provide unique opportunities for students to immerse themselves in Asian cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and promoting East-West dialogue.
