Over 1,150 Receive Incorrect Pfizer Doses; Repeat Appointments Scheduled

Over 1,150 individuals in our region have received incorrect doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine due to a cold chain protocol error. The affected individuals will be contacted by a THD representative to schedule a repeat dose appointment, as advised by the CDC. The error occurred when the vaccine was stored in the freezer for longer than recommended, up to 14 additional days.

The CDC advises repeating the dose as soon as possible in the opposite arm to ensure full efficacy. There is no known health risk to these individuals, but receiving an additional dose is not expected to have an elevated risk. Side effects will be similar to previous doses. Affected clinics include James O. Goodwin Health Center, Central Regional Health Center, Sand Springs Health Center, and North Regional Health and Wellness Center. As of May 16, our website has administered more than 122,311 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in total. If you wish to know which authorities were involved in the process of repeating the dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, you should focus on the relevant health authorities in your country. These typically include national health ministries, central health authorities, and pharmaceutical oversight bodies.
