The left-wing faction in the Ruhr region has selected its lead team for the Ruhr parliament. They have chosen Wolfgang Freye, current chairman of the RVR group from Essen, and Monetta Marchiano from Bochum as their primary candidates.

In the Ruhr region, the left-leaning political group has announced its leadership team for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Notable figures include Wolfgang Freye, current chairman of the RVR faction in Essen, and Monetta Marchiano from Bochum, who have been nominated as leading candidates. A total of 20 candidates were chosen for the race.

Wolfgang Freye, the leading candidate for The Left, highlighted the significance of the forthcoming legislative term, stating, "Over the next five years, we must address the escalating issue of poverty and its repercussions in the Ruhr region. Our priorities should focus on reducing child poverty, long-term unemployment, infrastructure disparities, and the continuous rise in municipal rents. The RVR should serve as a political voice for the Ruhr region, mobilizing municipal ideas and approaches to negotiate with confidence on the federal, state, and EU levels."

Monetta Marchiano also stressed the social relevance of the Ruhr parliament, declaring, "As the daughter of a migrant worker family, I have lived and grown up in Gelsenkirchen, and I am well-acquainted with the striking diversity within Ruhr region cities. It is imperative that this diversity is represented within the Ruhr parliament, as crucial decisions concerning our future are made there. This is why I chose to run for the RVR, and I aim to inspire others to become involved in the pursuit of change. In the realms of culture and education policy, I hope to make a substantial impact."

The direct elections for the region's parliament will occur concurrently with the statewide local elections on September 14, 2025. The 14th association assembly of the RVR comprises 91 voting members and 13 advisory members. Currently, The Left holds 4 seats.
