Ready for the Job Interview

In a significant step towards supporting young people with a migration or refugee background, the Berufspatenprojekt, in collaboration with Jugendberufshilfe and the Kassel Chamber of Crafts, hosted a three-week online training event titled 'Fit for the Job Interview.' This was the first-ever online training of its kind for these students.

The event, which took place over three weeks, saw the participation of seven vocational schools from the city and the region. A total of eleven experienced mentors from various fields served as sparring partners, collectively agreeing that everyone learned a lot and had a positive experience during the training.

The Berufspatenprojekt, funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration, is not limited to the students from BÜA classes in Kassel. It is open to young people with migration or refugee backgrounds from the city and region. The project aims to provide a supportive environment for these young individuals to navigate the job market and start their careers.

During the training, students could book online job interviews with fictional companies through a booking portal. After each interview, they received feedback and tips for further job-hunting activities. This new opportunity allowed students to prepare for job interviews for their desired apprenticeships in an online format.

The Berufspatenprojekt is not specifically focused on job interview training, but rather offers general support to young people in their career transitions. The project is seeking life- and work-experienced volunteers from the city and region to support young people with migration or refugee backgrounds in their transition from school to work life.

Despite initial technical hiccups and missed appointments, all involved agreed that the project should continue next year. For more information about the Berufspatenprojekt or to express interest in volunteering, interested parties can contact coordinator Brigitte Vogler at Tel.: 0561−1003 1275 or [email protected].

The Berufspatenprojekt, similar to the 'Fit for the Job Interview' training, is just one of the initiatives aimed at supporting young people with migration or refugee backgrounds. By expanding its pool of mentors, the Berufspatenprojekt hopes to accommodate more young people seeking guidance in their career transitions. For those who wish to support this cause, possible volunteer experience donors are individuals who want to make a difference by helping young people in their transition from school to working life.
