Recognition of Leadership Achievements at Park University During the 2023-24 Academic Year through the Howell Awards
Park University Celebrates Outstanding Students and Organizations at Annual Awards Ceremony
On April 10, 2024, Park University celebrated its 29th annual Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards, recognizing students who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, academic excellence, and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
Isabella Brooks, a sophomore biology major from Nevada, Mo., was honoured with the Park Student Government Association / Cindy Anderson Senator of the Year Award. Brooks, a former student of Nevada High School, was acknowledged for her significant contributions to the student government and her dedication to the university community.
In the senior class, Isabella Clark and Neyamia Powell received the Outstanding Class Member Awards. Their outstanding achievements and active involvement in university life were highlighted.
Stacey Kikendall, Ph.D., an associate professor of English from Parkville, Mo., was the recipient of the Student Organization Adviser of the Year Award. Kikendall, who advises Park University's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society), was recognised for her exceptional guidance and support to students.
Melody Alexander, an adjunct instructor of communication studies and adviser to The Stylus (Park University's online student newspaper) from Lawrence, Kan., received the Student Success and Impact Award. Her dedication to student success and significant impact on campus life were recognised.
Makayla Artis, a senior political science/American politics major from Elkton, Ky., was the recipient of the Park Servant Leader of the Year Award. Artis, a former student of Clarksville [Tenn.] Academy, was acknowledged for her service to the university community and her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
Ashlee Dureka and Rylee Reece were the recipients of the Outstanding Class Member Awards for the junior class. Their active involvement and significant contributions to university life were highlighted.
Jayme Uden, Ed.D., chief human resources officer who served as associate vice president and dean of students from Olathe, Kan., received the Special Award - Honors in Student Advising. Uden's dedication to student advising and her positive impact on campus culture were recognised.
Ali Haider Sian, a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science degree in information systems and business analytics from Doha, Qatar, was the recipient of the Graduate Assistant of the Year Award. Sian, who works in the Office of Residence Life, was acknowledged for his exceptional contributions and dedication to the university community.
Alyssa Acuna, associate director of student engagement and inclusion from Lenexa, Kan., was the recipient of the Staff Newcomer of the Year Award. Acuna's exceptional contributions to student engagement and inclusion were recognised.
The Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards also recognised a group of students for their outstanding leadership contributions. Debora Bernardi, Iva Drobnjak, Jade Galligo, Zach Porter, Patrick Robichaud, Gabrielle de Oliveira Sandins, Suzanne Schmidt, Joazee Smith, Patricia Carrio Ubeda, and Elijah Wilhelm were all honoured for their tangible leadership contributions, community engagement, and positive impact on campus culture.
Jack MacLennan, Ph.D. was the recipient of the Dusing-Proudfoot Award, while Elizabeth (Weese) Muncal received the Tipton Award.
The Stylus, Park University's online student newspaper, was the recipient of the Student Organization of the Year Award. Phi Epsilon Kappa, a student organization that advances the interests of Park University's sport and exercise science programs, was the recipient of the New Student Organization of the Year Award.
Austin Dubberley and Zachary Knowles were the recipients of the C.W. Bailey Award. Miranda Ridder, Ph.D., assistant teaching professor of biology from Independence, Mo., received the Faculty Newcomer of the Year Award.
Eugene Matthews, Ph.D. was the recipient of the Park Family Award, and Bilemanga (Sarah) Fataki received the Toni Griggs Award.
Lauren Buck and Marissa Wortkoetter were the recipients of the Outstanding Class Member Awards for the sophomore class. Grace Wahab, a junior management major from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., was the recipient of the Student Employee of the Year Award, working in the Park Global Warrior Center.
Dr. Doris Howell, an internationally renowned leader in pediatrics and hospice care, passed away in November 2018. The Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards continue to honour her legacy by recognising students who embody her values of leadership, service, and commitment to the community.
