School Commuting Safety: A Focus on Security During Journeys to Class
On September 17, 2025, during the European Mobility Week, a significant handover event will take place at the GGS Paffrath schoolyard in Bergisch Gladbach. The Infrastructure and Project Company Bergisch Gladbach (IP GL) GmbH, in collaboration with the KRÜGER GROUP, will officially donate 1,070 reflective safety vests to the first-graders of municipal primary schools in the city.
This donation is part of IP GL's mission to enhance the safety of first-graders in Bergisch Gladbach. The KRÜGER GROUP, a local sponsor, has contributed to the procurement of these safety vests, aiming to provide a safer walk to school for the young students during the upcoming darker season.
The safety vests are neon green, making the children more visible in traffic, and are reflective, which enhances visibility during low-light conditions. Susanne Heuckmann, principal of the Paffrath Community Primary School, expressed her gratitude for the donated safety vests, highlighting their importance in ensuring a safer walk to school.
The ceremony will be attended by school management, all first-graders, the managing directors of IP GL, including Willi Schmitz, and representatives of the KRÜGER GROUP. Nurten Bongard, Senior Communication Manager of the KRÜGER GROUP, emphasised the importance of good visibility in traffic, especially during the darker season.
The handover event is not only a significant step towards ensuring the safety of first-graders but also serves as an opportunity for parents and children to have a good feeling for the start of the school year. The other primary schools will receive the safety vests from the 37th week onwards through GL-Service gGmbH or the police for distribution to the respective entrance classes.
This year, the financing of 1,070 safety vests was supported by the KRÜGER GROUP from Bergisch Gladbach. IP GL has been working for several years to increase the safety of first-graders and equip them with reflective safety vests. The donation by the KRÜGER GROUP is a testament to their commitment to the safety and well-being of the city's young students.
