School construction for Realschule Altlünen officially opened
Lünen-Altlünen Realschule Unveils Modern, Sustainable School Building
In a grand inauguration ceremony on September 3, 2025, the city of Lünen celebrated the successful completion of the new school building for Lünen-Altlünen Realschule. Despite the initial cost increases and construction time extensions, the city's enthusiasm for the project remains undeterred.
Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the construction process, highlighting the new school building as an investment in safety, quality, and the future of children. The modern edifice, designed by SSP AG, boasts urban planning qualities and has been hailed as a testament to the city's commitment to education.
The new school building offers contemporary pedagogical possibilities, equipped with state-of-the-art digital equipment for iPad classes, auditorium, cafeteria, and a permanently installed stage. The stage can be used for theatre, concerts, and communal singing, providing a versatile space for students to showcase their talents.
The structure is also a KfW-40-EE building, equipped with a photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat recovery, and a green roof, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable. To improve learning conditions, modern soundproofing measures have been implemented, and the building features a comprehensive barrier-free concept, ensuring accessibility for all students.
The new school building also includes differentiation rooms for small group work and new meeting places such as the auditorium and cafeteria. Democracy education has a fixed place in the new school building, with annual projects about the 9th of November prepared in different grade levels.
Mayor Kleine-Frauns acknowledged the increased costs, attributing them to the framework conditions under which municipalities build, particularly the procurement law that ties them to the offer price as a criterion. Despite these challenges, he emphasized that the new school construction represents an investment in education that will benefit future generations.
The successful construction of the new school building is a result of the collective efforts of planners, builders, the administration, and the teaching staff. The city of Lünen is delighted with the outcome and looks forward to the school's continued growth and success within its new, modern home.
