Firing and Schools: Jammu's Current Scenario

Amidst the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the educational institutions in the heart of Jammu are feeling the heat. Here's a lowdown on the ground reality.

The bustling city of Jammu, along with its adjacent districts - Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch - have been in a state of uncertainty due to the ongoing hostilities. The schools in these districts, particularly those bordering Pakistan, are yet to reopen, following a series of actions from both nations.

In a recent development, schools and educational institutions in non-border districts of Jammu were given the green light to reopen from Tuesday, allowing students to dive back into their academic pursuits. However, the schools in border districts remain closed, causing a ripple of concern among students and parents alike.

"The Education Department announced the reopening of educational institutions in non-border districts of Jammu, while schools in border districts will remain shut. This decision was made after a thorough review of the situation by the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu," reads a post from the commissioner on X.

The Deputy Commissioner of Jammu further clarified that Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch are the border districts where institutions will remain closed. This decision came after three civilians were killed in heavy cross-border firing by the Pakistan military on May 7, in response to Operation Sindoor launched by India on April 22.

The aviation sector, too, has been affected, with several airports closed due to tensions between the two nations. However, Air India has announced that it is working towards normalizing operations at airports like Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot.

India's Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, has significantly redefined India's strategy against terrorism. The operation, which targeted key operational centers of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen, marked a strategic milestone in India's fight against terrorism.

In the midst of these geopolitical turbulences, Jammu's educational institutions remain in a state of limbo, waiting for the dust to settle before they can return to normal. Keep an eye on updates in the coming days, as the situation continues to unfold.

Educational institutions in border districts of Jammu, such as Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch, remain closed due to the ongoing hostilities, causing concern among students and parents. Meanwhile, the political landscape in Jammu and India continues to evolve with the strategic operations against terrorism groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
